as a Natural Heritage

On September 8 the Galapagos National Park will be celebrating 40 years as a Natural Heritage designated by UNESCO. The community will participate in many events of conservation like the prevention and environmental control, monitoring of endemic flora and fauna.

The Galapagos Islands were declared Natural Heritage due to "superlative natural phenomena of exceptional natural beauty" including the marine reserve that provides examples of adaptation, such as the Galapagos penguin thanks to the confluence of different marine currents. Another reason was the existence of "outstanding examples" that represented the most important stages of the history of the earth and outstanding ecological and biological evolution processes were also taken into account. The Galapagos archipelago is "one of the best preserved in the world".

The enchanted islands have these tools, for which Galapagos was considered in this list are intact. The islands are considered a natural laboratory that allowed the scientist Charles Darwin to formulate his Theory of Evolution.
